Lioden is a lion pride simulation / virtual pet game boasting 25,000+ members, who collectively own more than 120,000 beautiful virtual lions! The SIM game entails controlling a single male lion, who can level up, claim lone lionesses, breed cubs, lead subordinate males, and explore the wilderness. All together, these lions make up your pride, and there is a plethora of things that you can do with them!
One of the goals of Lioden is to have the strongest, most desirable male on the block! You gain experience for your lion in multiple ways: fighting NPCs like hyenas and wild dogs in explore mode, fighting rival males, completing quests, and random events. When you level up your lion, he will gain stats, which will increase his chances of winning battles against rival males. In addition to an overall level, your Lion also has an impression level that determines his attractiveness to the females. The most impressive lions very rarely have have trouble convincing ladies to join their pride!
Another of Liodens big attractions is it’s beautiful art! Not only can you fight lions, but you can breed them! With litters of 1-4 cubs, you’re sure to fill up your den with a wide range of beautiful, uniquely marked lions. In contrast to other SIM games on the internet, lions on Lioden aren’t prone to getting ‘ugly’ colour combinations. Most of the markings are in natural colours that blend well together, existing on a warm palette of golds, browns, blacks, whites, creams, and grays.
While the game is overall very engaging, starting off and trying to claim your first lioness can be a little arduous because of your energy limit. You have 100 points of energy to spend overall, but you regenerate 10 energy points every 15 minutes. It can be a little frustrating at the beginning, but once your pride is set up, you’ll have more than enough to do while you’re waiting!
In addition to annoying waiting periods, the navigation of the site is a little unpolished. It takes more than 1 click to get to the areas you’ll want to visit the most. However, this can be fixed by adding your favourite pages to your ‘bookmarks’, a feature that the site offers. After bookmarking a page, a link will show up in your sidebar.
But by far the biggest set back is the lack of a detailed lion search engine. You can’t search for other users lions with specific markings, stats, or stud prices, and it can be a little frustrating when your looking for that perfect stud to breed with your lioness. Instead you have to comb the forums for stud advertisements, which is an arduous process.
Difficulty Level and Community
Lioden isn’t difficult in any sense of the word, but the game targets an older audience, so you’ll encounter a greater level of maturity in the community forums and chat box than you might be accustomed to on other SIM sites. The site moderators have a very good reputation for caring about their players, and work extremely hard to maintain a friendly environment for everyone. They are also actively engage with the community and are continually improving the site, discussing new ideas with players and fixing bugs promptly as they pop up. The wider community leaves you feeling welcomed and happy to be part of the game.
Is it free?
Lioden is free, but the site also offers the option of buying gold beetles through paypal. Gold Beetles can be used to buy services and items that can be used to alter the appearance of your lions, skip wait times, and a variety of other goodies that are convenient but don’t necessarily provide you with an advantage over other players. Proceeds from Gold Beetle sales help to cover the costs of running the game.
It’s also possible to obtain Gold Beetles without paying real money for them. You can sell your own items, lions, art, or services to other players in exchange for game currency, including Gold Beetles.
Lioden has a lot to offer for a variety of players, whether your prefer fighting and levelling, breeding for looks, trading and selling lions and items, roleplaying, or just producing fan art, it’s sure to be an engaging experience for fans of SIM and virtual pet games!
