Brief look at what I’m doing rigt now in Magic Set Editor. I can’t even. Derpderp.
Sometimes I doubt that I spend my time productivey.
Kudos to you if you looked at that and realized immediately exactly what I’m making into custom cards. If you don’t… well, I’m sure I’ll be spamming my tumblr with them soon.
Some of them are probably going to be terrible. I hope not as infamously terrible as the My Little Pony cards are.
EDIT: Not right now though… plans with mom

Here are some more cards that I want to fit in my custom set.

First of all, there are, of coarse, the Planeswalkers I spent so long tweaking. You’ve seen those before(unless you’re new, then here, and here.) The card from my last post, Taryn’s initiative, was named so because it works well, I think, with Taryn the planeswalker. Shhh. Yes I know she’s named after me, that’s because I didn’t think I would ever show her to the public and the reason I designed her was to find out what I would be like as a planeswalker x.x I would change it, but it’s already head canon. Sorry! Narcissism rages on! (But like it really matters, right?! It’s just a custom set for me and my friends! And I’m no Brian Kibler!)

Second of all, I made a bear themed bear lord! I thought it was really suiting for the bear lord to be a ‘bear’ herself, in that she is a two mana 2/2. And a two mana lord that gives an extra ability (Like vigilance) is just too powerful, so I stuck with the two theme and let her give +2/+2 to all her bear friends instead! What do you think?

The last is just a flavor card, haha! The cat came back, get it? Lolololol? Anyway, I want to play with exile abilities like this! Not bringing things back from exile, but having cards that don’t like being exiled, or are beneficial to exile! I have several that I’m working on. But some of them need some pretty intense tweaking x.x

There’s a super cool bear I designed yesterday. It’s a token maker that Beargen loves. I’m going to hang onto it until I have some other cards to post up with it. So far, I’m honestly the most excited about Dictate.

Anyway.

(just ignore the fact that Beargen doesn’t have a type line -.- oversight in the MSE File. Whoops! Haha)

For my super duper cool first ever custom set design, I thought I’d play around with the following:

Turn Matters
Exile
Tribal and/or Tokens

Here’s a mechanic I thought up (I don’t really follow other people making custom sets, so apologies if my ideas overlap with anyone else’s. It’s an honest coincidence) because I liked the idea of spells being more powerful if more time/resources were used to cast them. And when would you have more time to focus on spell casting? During your turn, obviously.

So, I give you a little combat tomfoolery and a counterspell that you can only cast on your turn for your perusal. Tell me what you think!

(Edit: Sorry about the fuzzy preview quality. Come on MSE, what are you doing?)

Tonight I got around to designing the planeswalker Beargen has been wanting me to make ever since we talked about ourselves as planeswalkers.
He is…. very different from me in his preferences in magic. White and Green are both not really my favourite colours, so this was actually pretty tough for me to do. But Beargen had a lot of input on this, thank goodness, because I don’t think I would have ended up making it otherwise. It’s definitely not the style of card that I would want to play, but I think it ended up being something HE would want to play. Or at the very least, it’s Ultimate ability is haha. It’s abilities changed a lot while we were working on it…

Updated version of Taryn, Wanderer. I have discussed this with a couple of people, and so far these are the changes I have decided to make.
1. Changed +2/+2 to +2/+0, which fits a bit better with Red’s slice of the colour pie.
2. Changed the token ability from neg 1 to neg 2.
3. Changed the extra turn ability from neg 5 to neg 6, so that people will have to put in a little extra work to make their planeswalker survive using it’s ultimate, if that’s what they want.

Can you tell I’m hell bent on making Rogue tribal broke?
This is part of a cycle of lands I’m designing; I loved the Morningtide Bannerets. And recently I was thinking that there was some flavour reasons for a ‘home base’ of sorts for certain types of creatures. Naturally, you should be able to go to places where certain types of creatures would be more abundant. I decided that inns/taverns by the wayside are probably teeming with lone travelers. And in their abundancy, they’d be easier to find (Cost less to cast).
But thinking about this interacting with Rogue tribal instants/sorceries and prowl costs kind of makes alarm bells ring haha. But perhaps if I made this land tap for colorless mana, it would tone it down a bit.

Alright. So, my card design kick started when Beargen and I were discussing what we would be like if we were Planeswalkers. I knew I would be my current favourite colour combo, UR. And I really wanted to include abilities from my current favourite card, Notorious Throng, from Morningtide (Which I love more and more as days go on).
This is what I came up with. I’m not sure if I’d play it in an actual deck, but dang, I love it anyway haha.
I think it has a lot of blue flavour, and not as much red. Is this planeswalker justified being multicolour? I’m not sure.
(Art I swiped from Deviantart, and credited. I’m hoping it’s fine, but if any artists sees something of theirs on one of these cards, rest assured they are not for distribution or any commercial purpose, just my own personal exercise in card design. If you wish for me to take it down, I will do so)
